For over 40 years, Asian action cinema has been dominated by one man, and Reel East is proud to celebrate that  most famous name in Hong Kong martial arts movies with The Jackie Chan Collection.

Jackie Chan’s ‘Police Story’ set a whole new standard for contemporary Hong Kong cop thrillers. It begins with Chan’s tough cop character tobogganing his vehicle down through a Kowloon shantytown and ends with him trashing a Tsim Sha Tsui mall. In between, the stunts, fights and gags fly fast and furious, and Chan shows a more dramatic side to his acting range.

Shot on location in Hong Kong, ‘Police Story’ launched what would become Jackie’s most successful movie franchise. The first film introduced the characters that would reappear throughout the trilogy: Maggie Cheung as the long-suffering girlfriend of Chan’s Ga-kui, actor and horse racing commentator Bill Tung as his avuncular commanding officer, long-time cohort Mars as Chan’s sidekick…

Given how many martial arts cop actioners have been released since, its hard to imagine the impact this film had on first release. It gave Jackie’s career in Asia a whole new lease of life, and also won him a new generation of fans worldwide.
