The Inspector Wears Skirts AKA Top Squad International Lobbycard Set

Chinese action cinema has always had many martial arts heroines, and we celebrate this rich tradition with our Kung Furies Collection.

The martial arts heroine genre came into the modern age with ‘Yes Madam’, which teamed Michelle Yeoh and American kung fu champion Cynthia Rothrock. Rothrock was later signed to a multi-film deal by Golden Harvest, and cast in the Jackie Chan-produced lady cop actioner ‘The Inspector Wears Skirts’. The film was distributed internationally as ‘Top Squad’.

Besides La Rothrock, the film also made an action star out of established Hong Kong actress Sibelle Hu and brought former Shaw Bros kung fu heroine Kara Hui AKA Wai Yin-hung back to the screen. The films comedic aspects are handled by award-winning comic actress Sandra Ng.

This was the second film from director Wellson Chin, who had formerly worked for legendary film-maker Sammo Hung. The action scenes were choreographed by the Jackie Chan stunt team, most of whom also appear in the film.

Bad guy Jeff Falcon is an American wu shu expert went on to have an impressive run of roles in Hong Kong action films. On his return to the US, Falcon starred in and choreographed the cult classic ‘Six String Samurai’. After its release, Falcon disappeared, and has never been heard from again.
