Director Lo Wei directed the first two movies of the legendary Bruce Lee, ‘The Big Boss’ and ‘Fist of Fury’, and made his version of one of the great unmade Bruce Lee projects. Prior to his untimely death, Lee had been planning to make a period action film at Shaw Brothers studio, based on the historial tale of Nian Geng-yao. Seven years after Bruce’s death, Lo told the same tale as ‘The Rebellious Reign’.
It starred Jimmy Lee, AKA Lung Fong, in what would have been the Bruce Lee role, opposite Shaw Brothers veteran Tsui Siu-keung as the 4th Prince that Nian Geng-yao helps take the throne. This version has much to recommend it, and we can only speculate what The Little Dragon would have made of his first historical epic.
