For over 40 years, Asian action cinema has been dominated by one man, and Reel East is proud to celebrate that most famous name in Hong Kong martial arts movies with The Jackie Chan Collection.
Throughout the 1980s, Chan was active at Golden Harvest as an actor and director, but also as a producer. With ‘Naughty Boys’, also known as ‘With A Little Bit of Trick’, Jackie crafted a project that would show off the talents of his long-time cohort Mars, as well as a bunch of Shaw Brothers performers left high and dry when that studio became defunct. These included former Lau Kar-leung leading lady Kara Wai Yin-hung, of ‘My Young Auntie’ fame and former ‘Five Deadly Venoms’ star Lo Mang. It also provided a film debut for the hugely popular TV actress Carina Lau. The action for the film is provided by the Jackie Chan Stunt Team, with Jackie himself providing the briefest of cameos in the film.
‘Naughty Boys’ marks the directorial debut of Sammo Hung’s assistant director Wellson Chin, though Jackie himself is, perhaps understandably, front and centre in the movie’s trailer and marketing materials. Chin would later direct the hugely successful, Jackie Chan-produced ‘Inspectors Wear Skirts’. This movie’s stand-out warehouse fight scene sees both Wai Yin-hung and Carina Lau go into action, with Chan using the film to break in a new generation of stunt guys. ‘Naughty Boys’ also features some of the kind of car stunts seen in the Lucky Stars film series.
Reel East and The Jackie Chan Collection are proud to celebrate ‘Naughty Boys’ by making this rare Chinese sales poster, printed for the 1986 theatrical distribution of the film, available to Chan’s worldwide fan base. It features the film’s AKA title, ‘With A Little Bit of Trick’.
